School Time Music/Alphabet Rockers
Kaitlin McGaw and Dawn Richardson are hard at work on some kid’s tunes and we’ve posted some examples here for you to preview. We’ll make sure and keep you posted and let you know when the full length CD is ready to go! Our teaching family and friends have been giving us much appreciated advice and input and we look forward to releasing our first full length CD in 2007.

The concept here is to make music that is both entertaining and educational. These songs are targeted toward teachers and written with the California Kindergarten curriculum in mind. The music is for classroom or home use – for kids aged 4-6 (Pre K/Kindergarten). Each song targets a specific learning requirement. The music is modern and fresh – infused with rock, hip-hop and a bit of rap. We want to keep learning fun!

School Time Music Statement of Purpose

School Time Music is a music production company founded by Kaitlin McGaw and Dawn Richardson to create contemporary educational children’s music. Their debut project, Alphabet Rockers, connects each song to an aspect of the K-1 curriculum. With original hip-hop beats, DJ-style scratching, reggae grooves, rock guitar, and a flavor that is contemporary and unique. K-1 teachers around the country are using the music in their classrooms and are eager for the CD release this July. The songs from this project are available for licensing to other programming. In addition, School Time Music aims to produce commissioned songs for children’s educational programming.

School Time Music Partners

KAITLIN MCGAW: Boston native and Harvard University graduate, Kaitlin has performed regularly since she was a child, in children’s theater, gospel choir, classical performance, and currently she performs professionally in a San Francisco cover band. She has received awards from Harvard and the City of Boston for her work in intercultural learning for children. Kaitlin is the Project Manager for the San Francisco GRAMMY office, producing educational programs for musicians of all ages. Inspired by her favorite children’s album, Free to Be You and Me, in 2004 Kaitlin partnered with Dawn Richardson to form School Time Music, to combine current music styles with meaningful lyrics in this project.

DAWN RICHARDSON has traveled the world playing drums with 90s rock band 4-Non-Blondes, and has freelanced as a professional drummer both touring and in the studio since. She has published several instruction books on percussion and rock drumming, and teaches students as young as 6 and 7 how to play the drums. A sister of two elementary school teachers, Dawn often provided tips on integrating music in the classroom, while they let her know what works for them in the classroom with the current curriculum. Dawn met Kaitlin at the Blue Bear School of Music, where the formed this partnership from their mutual interest in children’s music.
