Perps
NOTE: The Perps are currently on haituse – we’ll
let you know when we can walk the beat once more! Thanks for
your past support. 10-4…
The Facts: The Perps are an instrumental power trio that combines
jazz sensibility with the energy of a rock band. They play
theme songs from cop and detective shows - mostly from the
70’s when Quincy Jones and Lalo Shifrin were ruling the
TV airwaves – but they reserve the right to draw from
other decades, if they so desire.
They’re still a new band, but they have already played
San Francisco’s night time hot spots Bottom of the Hill
and 111 Minna Gallery.
The Suspects:
Guitar – Shelley Doty
Shelley can do it all – and she does! In addition to
handling the high end with the Perps, she does her own thing
with the Shelley Doty X-tet, performs solo acoustic shows as
a singer/songwriter and plays lead guitar with Pyeng Threadgill.
Shelley was also a member of the popular west coast band Jambay
(which also included Perps bassist Mike Sugar) and has performed
and/or recorded with Bonfire Madigan, Kindness, Rosen Coven,
Melissa Crabtree, Judea Eden, and Gwen Avery.

Bass – Mike Sugar
Besides being a “Bass god” - Mike is a composer,
audio engineer and multi-instrumentalist. He can pick the notes
out of a tone cluster like you wouldn’t believe, which
actually is a helpful talent to have in the Perps. Mike currently
plays in the band Dave Martin’s House Party and was also
previously in Jambay with Shelley. He does a lot of other projects
under cover – to protect the innocent.

Drums – Dawn Richardson
Dawn lives in her own world that revolves around drums and
Diet Coke with Lime. She likes to play the drums (currently
in Coal Pitts Wash, Perps and 2Toggle), write about the drums
(she’s got a couple of drum books out there – and
has written some stuff in those magazines that only drum geeks
read) and teach drums and program drums (and occasionally other
instruments). She has also performed and/or recorded with 4
Non Blondes, Kindness, The Martinis, Penelope Houston and Erika
Luckett.
